The central division of the Queensland Rugby League recently approved the purchase of an RV vehicle to be based in Roma and driven by a staffer to assist clubs and competition administrators in centres including Emerald, Longreach, Winton and Mount Isa.
“Any help we can get out here can only be a positive for rugby league in the region,” Mount Isa rugby league president Shaun Wilde said.
“Of course it will help our players but it will also benefit the coaches, as they will be able to learn techniques from other coaches.
“At the moment, they are benchmarking against themselves, but by introducing this, they will be more equipped to attend representative carnivals in the future.”
An administrator, to be appointed, will fly in from Brisbane and drive the maroon, special decked-out vehicle to be procured by the QRL as a mobile help to run the game in challenging times.
“Mount Isa junior rugby league had one of its stronger years in recent memory, which included Sunset Tigers bringing home the Telstra NRL One Community 2014 Grassroots Club of the Year award,” Wilde said.
“We had more than 530 juniors playing rugby league last year, with Townies more than doubling their numbers and Cloncurry continuing to grow.”
It is reported that the vehicle would not primarily be for junior development but could be made available for staff to do clinics and school visits.
