The tourist’s vehicle was stranded on a dirt road while he was driving to Doomadgee.
Burketown Police officer-in-charge Acting Sergeant Matthew Costelloe said motorists could face conditions on outback roads they had never experienced before.
“It is important to drive to road conditions especially during this season when we’ve experienced heavy rain fall and localised flooding,” he said.
“Some of the roads are inaccessible and shouldn’t be used.”
Telstra also warned Mount Isa and Cloncurry residents to be prepared on remote roads by having a spare mobile charger.
Telstra Country Wide Area general manager for Far North Queensland Amanda Albon said there was an increased risk in floods and cyclones.
“We all love to get out and about during summer but there is a chance things could take a turn for the worse and you need to be prepared for that,” said Ms Albon.
“Even if you don’t live in an area that’s at risk, there’s a chance you maybe holidaying or driving through a disaster prone area, so all Australians need to be aware and prepared for what may happen.”
