A 23-year-old male driver died when the car he was travelling in collided with another vehicle on Adventure Way about five kilometres west of Cunnamulla on December 27.  A 78-year-old woman travelling as a passenger in the second car was also killed.  The 40-year-old female driver of that car was flown to Princess Alexandra Hospital with serious internal injuries.

The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating.

The fatal crash was the most serious of the incidents police recorded on Queensland roads in the 24 hours to midnight on Saturday.

A further 54 people were injured in 41 crashes, while of the 18,527 breath tests performed, 62 drivers were found to be over the limit, including one who allegedly recorded 0.212 per cent in Ashmore.  Eight drivers are awaiting analysis of their positive roadside drug test, while 3091 people were caught by speed cameras.

Police pulled over another 768 drivers on speed relating offences.  The highest speed recorded was 127 km/h in a 70km zone on Redland Bay Road in Capalaba.

The police holiday operation will continue until midnight on January 3.
