New Year's Eve at South Bank

There'll be two ten-minute fireworks shows this year at South Bank, at 8.30pm and 11.59pm. Ten tonnes of fireworks and 40,000 individual pyrotechnic displays will light the sky from three barges and three city rooftops. The parkland restaurants and cafes will be open late, but make sure you book to avoid missing out. There will be security bag checks at the parkland entry points. Free. More information online.

New Year's Geek

If you went to Supanova – or didn't, and wished you had – here's the opportunity to see in 2015 with your favourite pop-culture characters. Local band Boss Fight will play amped-up versions of classic video game tunes, and there'll also be DJS, retro arcade games, film screenings and a drink and appetizer included in the ticket price. Brisbane Times' own Natalie Bochenski will host the ultimate Game of Thrones trivia competition, with sweet prizes on offer to the best of Westeros. Woodford Folk Festival

The ever-popular annual Woodford Folk Festival is ideal for those looking for a more laidback way to see the year out. Bands performing on the day include Little Scout, Paper Lions (Canada), DACHAMBO (Japan), The East Pointers (Canada) and Flap! There'll also be all the usual Woodford activities, discussions and workshops going on such as lantern making, vaudeville circus and poetry readings. Campers who stick around for the night might want to catch a yoga class early the next morning. Festival runs from December 27-January 1. Daily tickets from $110 available online.

Retro Ball

If you're looking for hedonistic fun but still want to support a good cause on New Year's, head to the Retro Ball hosted by Qld Down Syndrome Ambassadors. The all-inclusive ticket includes wine, champagne, beer, spirits and a three-course meal provided by award winning chef Brent Farrel. Local bands Hot Sauce and Full House will perform alongside DJ Bill, and there'll be free rides supplied. Dress is retro formal, and there'll be prizes for the most creative outfits. 7.30pm-1.00am. New Year's Eve at Mooloolaba

This annual beachfront event attracts around 40,000 revellers to enjoy a feast of entertainment including carnival rides, buskers, children's activities, roving entertainment, and live DJs. The event starts at 4pm, and there will be two fireworks displays at 8.30pm and midnight. Live music lovers are in for a treat too - with The Church and British India headlining before the countdown to 2015. Free. More information online.

Ipswich New Year's Eve

An event perfect for the young family, North Ipswich Reserve will play host to a range of free family-friendly entertainment and activities. Actor, singer, guitarist and 'King of the Kids' Tim Jackman will keep kids and adults alike entertained. Crowd-pleaser band Magic Carpet Ride will take you on a ride of the last fifty years of party tunes, playing classic rock, pop floorfillers, 80s anthems and Aussie classics. There'll be a 7.15pm screening of The Croods and the night will go out with a bang with 10.00pm fireworks. Food and drinks will be available for purchase at the alcohol-free event. 6.00pm-10.00pm. Queensland Pops Orchestra

The more sophisticated amongst may seek something other than a night of clubbing. Fortunately, the Queensland Pops Orchestra will bring the New Year in with a variety of musical styles at a gala performance. In Vienna New Year style there will be performances of Handel's Royal fireworks music, grand waltzes, polkas and marches as well as more popular music. Young violin virtuoso Cherin Lee will perform the gypsy style Zigeunerweisen by Sarasate. Award winning pianist Alex Raineri will perform Gershwin's highly popular Rhapsody in Blue, and featured artists Jason Barry-Smith and Katie Stenzel will lead in Auld Lang Syne. Party at Riverlife

Experience a stylish New Years with entertainment, 'walk and fork' dishes and gorgeous river views. The Riverlife party ticket includes one food ticket and two premium drinks, and additional drinks can be purchased at the bar. Limes Rooftop Gold Party

Looking to splash out for a night of club glamour? Head to the open air rooftop bar at Limes Hotel. Those on the guest list will be able to enjoy the newly refurbished world class bar and amenities and have the option of heating up on the dance floor or cooling off in the plunge pools. The Fox transforms into the Best of British for this UK-themed New Year's Eve party. Roll in from 7pm to make the most of the night's exclusive areas and inclusions, with live bands, DJs and other Gather your Bond girls or assemble your S-Club because this is a New Year's Eve party you won't want to miss. Alfred & Constance House Party

Alfred & Constance will throw a huge party for New Years over four different bars. Share a fiery kava bowl at the White Lightning Tiki Bar or head downstairs to the Fever Club for a disco party and dazzling LED lightshow that wouldn't be out of place in Berlin. Mexico NYE at Laruche

Take a trip to Mexico with an exotic fiesta-inspired party at Laruche. New Year's Eve Fluro Party at The Glen

Dress up in your brightest fluro gear and ring in the New Year with a bang.
