New South Wales police tried to stop a car at the northbound Kennedy Drive on-ramp to the Pacific Motorway at Tweed Heads just before midnight.
The car crossed into Queensland and subsequently crashed at Tugun.
Queensland Police officers arrested the male driver, who was taken to the Gold Coast University Hospital.
A search of the car allegedly uncovered a loaded shot gun in the rear foot well, along with a rifle in the boot.
Ammunition was also found in the man's pocket.
He will face Southport Magistrates Court on Tuesday charged with driving without a licence and two firearms-related offences.
