In the latest fundraising email sent to subscribers by the party, state director Brad Henderson said the Labor Party was attempting to "out-bid" the LNP in "key areas" in the billboard stakes.

Which, given an election campaign is just weeks away, is usual behaviour for political parties.

But wanting to fight the red with the yellow and blue, Mr Henderson has once again asked supporters to dig into their pockets.

"I hope you had a great Christmas. We took a short break here at the LNP, but we're back and getting ready for what is to come," he said.

"Soon you'll start to see our new billboards. We're getting them up all across Queensland, but we've heard that the Labor Party is trying to out-bid us in some key areas to get some of their own.

"Will you help us paint the town blue and yellow by the New Year by donating right now?

"With your help we will get more billboards, TV ads, and mail pieces out across our great state.

"Your contribution right now will help us fight back against Labor and their union allies who are trying to outspend us on advertising. They rely on lies and distortion, while we're running on our record and our strong plan for a stronger Queensland."

The LNP scrapped electoral spending caps, meaning all parties are free to spend as much as they like in whatever seat they deem a key battle zone.

The Opposition and minor parties have been running a campaign against tax-payer funded advertising "explaining" the government's policies in recent weeks, as it contradicts the advertising code-of-conduct that details what should happen in the lead-up to an election campaign – which is the ads stop.

A date for the election is yet to be set.
