The most recent Galaxy poll, first published by The Australian, showed while the LNP and Labor were virtually neck and neck in the preference stakes, support for the anti-association laws had grown from 48 per cent early last year to 60 per cent in November.

Labor has committed to repealing, reviewing and replacing the laws.

Queensland police have asked both parties to support the legislation beyond the next election.

But acting Attorney-General John McVeigh would not commit the government to supporting the laws beyond the 2016 review.

"The distinction is very, very clear," he said.

"The LNP government introduced these laws under the legislation, we will review them in roughly 18 months time, we are obviously very committed to them right now, and we continue to be.

"In stark contrast to that, the Labor opposition, under Annastacia Palaszczuk, wants to undo these laws, wants to take us back to the old days of criminal gangs riding roughshod over the rest of the community.

"The LNP government will not stand for that, hence the introduction of the laws in the first place."

But he would not give a guarantee, which the police want, that the laws will stay in place, despite being asked multiple times.

The High Court has already rejected one challenge against the laws, but the legal battle is not entirely won.

The court held up the anti-association aspects, but found the person who brought the case had no standing to challenge tge VLAD aspects, as he had not been charged under the legislation. But the government has claimed the public PR battle win for itself.

"These laws have seen a massive fall in crime across Queensland," Transport Minister Scott Emerson said.

"We've seen crime rates fall in Queensland.  And significantly, governments like the South Australian government are now looking to introduce the same laws we put in place.

"My challenge today is to the Labor leader, Annastacia Palaszczuk, to get up and say why she wants to scrap laws that have been backed by the courts, that are opposed by the criminal motorcycle gangs.  It is only the criminal motorcycle gangs and Labor that want to get rid of these laws that are working to force crime rates down."

The United Motorcycle Council, which has led the charge against the laws, has repeatedly said it would support anyone who would repeal the laws at the election. The Electrical Trades Union has had a similar stance, saying, as an organisation, it was "neither for bikie gangs, or against them" but would continue to fight against the anti-association laws.

The ETU has "conservatively" estimated about 50 of its members would be affected when government legislation prohibiting people from working in certain trades and occupations from having any association with identified criminal motorcycle gangs comes into effect.

This has been the main aspect of the law the ETU and other unions have spoken out against.

"But I think the LNP will push the line that we support bikie gangs," State Secretary Peter Simpson said.

"We don't protect criminals in any way shape or form. Never have, never will. The ETU has never supported any group – it is all about the laws, the right to freely associate. Anyone should have that right, whether it be Rotary, or anyone. So the LNP can push this line all they want. It is not about protecting bikies or criminals. It is about the laws."

Labor has vowed to repeal the laws and then review before settling on what they plan to do. The government, when introducing the laws, said it would review them in 2016.

But with public attitudes changing and the government now able to spruik lower crime statistics, the laws have once again become an issue of contention – but this time, seemingly for those who oppose them.

"It is going to be a nasty part of the election," Mr Simpson said.

"It is starting already."
