More than 400 volunteers walking hundreds of kilometres to change 1500 votes.

The Kate Jones Ashgrove campaign remains in full swing, doing its best to remain low-key, but the intensity vibrates just under the surface.

While Premier Campbell Newman, who holds the seat by 5.7 per cent, has spent the past 14 days travelling the state and fitting in Ashgrove while he can, Ms Jones has spent the days walking the streets with her 'Team Kate' army.

 

That army was thanked at a BBQ at The Gap on Sunday evening, with a special guest appearance from Opposition Leader Annastacia Palaszczuk, who told volunteers she needed them to "re-double" their efforts in the coming weeks.

The event served two purposes: Ms Palaszczuk - who missed Ms Jones's official launch to hit Townsville and Cairns while the LNP officially launched their campaign - was able to put in some face time; and the Jones campaign could hose down some of the bad blood which emerged on Saturday when media were kicked out of her campaign launch.

Ms Jones, a former minister,  still appears gun shy in front of the media, the emotional scars from the bitter 2012 campaign still evident in the hesitation before posing for the cameras, the quick side-eye when microphones are in attendance.

She addressed the media by addressing her volunteers, telling them of the fight they still had on their hands, the "three years of damage" the local MP had caused the community.

Ms Palaszczuk told the group she "needed" Ms Jones in the Queensland Parliament.

But just a few kilometres away, in Mr Newman's Waterworks Road campaign office, where articles from the 2012 election win line the walls and the words 'team work' and 'hard work' are highlighted, the conservative faithful gathered at the same time.

They are just as committed to keeping the Premier in the seat as the ALP volunteers are to unseating him and hope the more than $100 million over the past three years and the $18 million plus to come, will help do it.

In the meantime, both sides will keep hitting the streets. And pretending it is just another electorate battle in 89 electorate battles, with no further importance to the state.
