Mount Isa Police Sergeant Brad Inskip said a breathing apparatus full of potassium superoxide erupted at the tourism hotspot.
“The five people at the hospital have now been released and received prophylactic treatment post exposer,” he said.
“They didn’t actually receive burns they just went through the procedures after being exposed to a chemical.”
Mount Isa Police, Queensland Fire Services and Queensland Ambulance Service responded to the popular tourism hotspot around 2pm today.
Further investigations will be undertaken by Workplace Health and Safety.
4pm: Five people are receiving treatment at Mount Isa Hospital for minor chemical burns following an explosion at Outback at Isa.
Mount Isa Police, Queensland Fire Services and Queensland Ambulance responded to the popular tourism hotspot just before 2pm today.
Sergeant Brad Inskip said five people had minor burns to their arms after a breathing apparatus exploded.
“Five people are receiving treatment for minor burns mostly to the arms,” he said.
“A breathing apparatus has exploded emitting a substance on the five people in the vicinity which has caused the minor chemical burns.”
“There will now be a Workplace Health and Safety investigation.”
