A broken arm in 2013 and a toe injury early last year restricted him to 17 games in two years, ensuring the winger has become one of the NRL's forgotten men.

The 22-year-old is a mainstay in Queensland's Emerging Origin squad, and Sailor says the Maroons' transitional phase could eventually open the door for the flamboyant winger.

"He got some [All Stars] votes, but because he's been out injured for so long people have forgotten about him," Sailor said.

"Edrick needs a little luck with injuries, and I have no doubt [Queensland selector] Gene Miles would be looking at him.

I know Queensland's got [Will] Chambers and [Dane] Gagai there, but Brent Tate has moved on and Darius [Boyd] is injured.

"The next season or two, if he can stay on the park you never know where it will take him."

Lee boasts 15 tries in 24 NRL games and Sailor believes the speedster with the flat top is ready to leap from cult figure to serious football star.

"We certainly haven't seen the best of Edrick Lee, not only is he young but he's been injured," he said.

"I just want him to have an injury-free season, as well as [Raiders teammate] Jack Wighton.

"He just can't get a full season in. He always sticks his tongue out and has different hair, crowds love that but he's a good footballer too.

"Edrick's a pure finisher, a bit like [Souths youngster] Alex Johnston. He's destined to play the All Stars at some stage, he'd really relish it."

While Edrick has endured some rotten luck, Wighton has also had his fair share of injuries.

Wighton, named on the Indigenous All Stars bench, was a NSW Origin shadow player for game two last year and Sailor says he could handle the big stage.

"He's the sort of guy I think in the next couple of years can be a real leader not only for Canberra, but be a fixture in the NSW team," Sailor said.

"Jack's had a few injuries, touch wood if he has a good run he can be anything."

He said Wighton, who has played every spot in Canberra's back-line bar half-back, would benefit from sticking to one position.

"I know he wants to be a team man, but at some stage you have to do what's right for Jack," he said.

"If he gets confidence at full-back, leave him there.

"When he was playing five-eighth I reckon it stifled what he can do because he was thinking about other people, that's what it looked like to me.

Lee and Wighton are vital for the Raiders' hopes as they look to fill the massive void left by Anthony Milford's departure to Brisbane Broncos.

"They've just got to move on, Milford is the best signing I've seen for the Broncos for a long time," Sailor said.

"I know Ricky [Stuart, Raiders coach] moved heaven and earth to keep him, I feel for them a bit."
