A ReachTEL poll commissioned by Seven News questioned 1635 Queenslanders on Tuesday night and found support for the LNP had grown by 2 per cent since the snap election was announced.

Of the respondents polled, 42 per cent said they would preference the LNP first, up from 40.3 per cent on January 6,  with 36.7 per cent offering their number one spot to Labor, down from 38.1 per cent when the election was called.

The Greens saw a slight increase in support, from 7.6 per cent to 8.4 per cent, with Palmer's United Party continuing its slide in the polls, dropping to 5.2 per cent from 6.3 per cent.

Two-thirds of respondents said the government would win a second term, regardless of their voting preference.

Based on how preferences flowed in 2012, the LNP lead Labor 52 per cent to 48 per cent on two-party preferred.

The poll has an error margin of 2.4 per cent.

But while Campbell Newman remains the preferred Premier from the LNP crop, Speaker Fiona Simpson has emerged as the public's second choice, with one in five picking the former deputy Nationals leader as their next preferred leader.

Public support for Treasurer Tim Nicholls dropped from 10.2 per cent to 6.8 per cent, while Deputy Premier Jeff Seeney, and Health Minister Lawrence Springborg garnered the vote of just over 12 per cent of the poll respondents.

Minister for Education, Training and Employment John-Paul Langbroek and Transport Minister Scott Emerson each managed to attract 4.6 per cent.

If Mr Newman loses the seat of Ashgrove but the LNP retains government, public opinion will be considered, but will not decide the leader. That will come down to a party room vote.

The latest Newspoll, first published by The Australian, found Labor candidate Kate Jones was slightly ahead of Mr Newman as the preferred Ashgrove candidate on preferences.

Voters will head to the polls on January 31.
