Chairman of Mount Isa Entertainment and Tourism Venues Phil Barwick confirmed there would be an investigation into the incident, which he described as an “accident”.
He said staff activated standard procedure as a precaution.
“A rebreathing unit was dropped accidentally and appears to have triggered and discharged the material that produces oxygen, as they are designed to do,” Mr Barwick said.
“Several people were splashed with the substance, which, although relatively harmless, can cause some minor irritation of the skin.
“MIETV will be conducting an investigation into the incident, along with appropriate workplace health and safety authorities, and we will be reviewing our tour policies and procedures.”
Mr Barwick said there would be a follow-up with those involved in the incident.
Mr Barwick thanked the staff and emergency staff for their expertise and quick response to the incident.
