Youth unemployment in some Brisbane outer suburbs jumped from 9 per cent to 15.8 per cent between 2013 and 2014, according to the Australian Bureau of Statistics.

However, in a boon for young people in particular, literally thousands of hotel and hospitality traineeships are being offered by both of the casino project's final two bidders - the Destination Brisbane Consortium which includes Echo Entertainment Group, and the Greenland Crown Resort consortium which includes Crown Casinos.

Echo Entertainment runs Star Casino in Sydney, Jupiter's Casino at Broadbeach and the Treasury Casino in the Brisbane's Treasury Building at the top of Brisbane Mall. It's Brisbane development plan includes six new hotels.

This week it announced a formal partnership with TAFE Queensland to train an additional 8000 employees in the state if it is chosen to build the complex.

The second bidder, Crown Resorts, runs casino centres in Melbourne, Perth, London and Macau and has proposals for new entertainment and casino complexes in Sydney, and now Brisbane.

It runs its own "Crown Colleges" in Melbourne and Perth to train its employees and on Thursday the company said it would build its own hospitality college in Brisbane if it is the successful bidder.

Echo Entertainment Group Queensland managing director Geoff Hogg said the company and TAFE would "jointly train the next generation of Queensland tourism and hospitality staff".

"Students will be trained across food and beverage courses, hotel and entertainment, gaming, security and management programs," he said.

"...So we are already spending $345 million expanding on the Gold Coast for 2017, recruiting more employees, and we will be expanding our training," Mr Hogg said.

"If successful with our Brisbane consortium bid, Destination Consortium Brisbane will build our own hotel and hospitality school, because now we are talking about an extra 8000 jobs.

"It's a significantly larger development and it will have multiple strategic partners, one of which is TAFE Queensland.

Crown Resorts chief executive Rowen Craigie meanwhile promised Brisbane would get its own Crown Hospitality College if his consortium won the Brisbane bid. Crown's Brisbane development plans includes three new hotels.

"Crown currently trains its own employees and operates a major in-house training college at both Crown Melbourne and Crown Perth," Mr Craigie said.

"This model will be replicated in Brisbane."

Crown has trained 5000 people at its Melbourne college.

Mr Craigie said Crown Resorts would also work with local TAFEs and schools to provide an extensive apprenticeship and schools-based traineeship program, and provide jobs for indigenous young people.

"As a part of the partnership, Greenland Crown will work with the Broncos and the FOGs to help deliver training, mentoring and employment opportunities for indigenous Australians," he said.

"By working with organisations like the Broncos and FOGs (Former Origin Greats), the Greenland Crown integrated resort will make long-term jobs for indigenous Australians a centrepiece of its employment strategy."

TAFE Queensland chief executive Jodie Schmidt said TAFE Queensland's College of Tourism and Hospitality at South Bank TAFE already provided training – under a formal agreement - with Echo Entertainment.

"We trained some of the best chefs in Queensland, who have gone on to international success," Ms Schmidt said.

She said a formal memorandum of understanding had been signed with the Echo Entertainment Group to provide skills for their resorts in Brisbane, Gold Coast and Sydney.

"It's about putting together a school of hospitality and training that tailors some of that training specifically to Echo, so that they have hospitality training that is second to none."

Echo Entertainment Group would pay for the training through the various courses, increasing TAFE Queensland's revenue and opening the opportunity for expansion of TAFE hospitality training, she said.

Ms Schmidt said, to her knowledge, TAFE Queensland had not yet spoken with Crown Resorts project bid team.
