The Mount Isa man has been appointed to the Australian Army as a General Service Officer and will now start his officer training at the Royal Military College, Duntroon, in Canberra.
The 29-year-old was born in Zimbabwe and has an undergraduate degree in commerce, majoring in accounting and finance, but moved away from his role as an accountant to pursue a career in the army.
“I wanted to join the Australian Defence Force to be of service and to give back to Australia; make a difference and fulfil my purpose, and leave a legacy as well as secure a future for my family,” Darius said.
The Royal Military College has been training world-class leaders for the Australian Army for more than 100 years and is one of the world’s outstanding military training institutions.
“As an officer I would love to ensure that soldiers realise their aspirations and full potential,” Darius said.
“I hope to achieve a number of things in my career; that I might be a source of inspiration to those I interact with, as well as draw inspiration and job satisfaction from the ADF family that I am now joining is something that I want to achieve.
“Our efforts will not be in vain as we make the world a better place, especially at the foundations of humanity.”
The appointment ceremony marks the official moment Darius becomes a member of ADF. It is a proud moment that he will no doubt remember throughout his career.
The Royal Military College trains people for careers in the army by promoting leadership and integrity, inspiring high ideals and the pursuit of excellence, and by bestowing a sense of duty, loyalty and service to the nation.
