WIND gusts of 85km/h lashed Cloncurry on Sunday night with the town’s dam resembling a windswept coastal beach.

Amazing photos of Chinaman Creek dam show dust storms in the sky and small waves, created by the strong winds.

There was also a quickfire shower of rain with 11.8 millimetres recorded in the town, with about 10 millimetres in 10 minutes just before 6pm.

Lake Julius scored much of the downpour with 38 millimetres recorded, mostly between 7.15pm and 9.30pm.

There was also wind gust of 82km/h at Lake Julius and Lake Moondarra also felt some of the wild storm with trees uprooted and blocking roads.

Richmond had an early Australia Day treat with 25.6 millimetres recorded, much of it hitting between 2am and 3am yesterday.

Georgetown Airport received 11 millimetres on Sunday.

Some showers are expected in the Gulf Country today and for the start of the weekend.

Mount Isa expected to be sunny for the rest of the week and into the weekend with temperatures in the high 30s.
