SECURING jobs for future generations in the North West is the focus of the election campaign, says Mount Isa’s Labor candidate, Simon Taylor.

‘‘My central focus and the focus of the Labor Party has always been on jobs — having secure jobs now and in the future, and making sure our children have jobs or the training to get them,” he said.
‘‘Labor has always supported regional communities and industries like mining or agriculture that sustain them.
‘‘Proof of that was the supportive stand taken by the Labor opposition on the copper smelter after my representations.”
Mr Tayler said there could be ‘‘no doubt” about Labor’s commitment to jobs in the North West and across Queensland.
‘‘In this campaign and for the months leading up to it, Labor has released a range of policies to protect existing jobs and create new ones while ensuring regional communities benefit from industries like mining by giving workers choice on issues like fly-in, fly-out working conditions,” he said.
‘‘On any measure, the policies the Labor Party would implement in government offer benefits far beyond those of the LNP, which continues to pay lip service to regional and remote communities while looking after itself with projects like its $2.6billion Executive Building project in the Brisbane CBD.
‘‘What we need to do is what I have promised during this election campaign: to increase the liveability to attract and retain new families, restore health and education cuts from the LNP and create the generational infrastructure that an independent state member will never be able to deliver.”
