A SHOCKED Heidi Rix was rewarded for her hard work in the Cloncurry community when she was took out the Citizen of the Year award at the Australia Day awards ceremony yesterday.

The Cloncurry Police Senior Constable said she was “humbled” to receive the award.
Ms Rix moved to Cloncurry four years ago and has played an active role within the community.
She was described as a hard worker within the community as she volunteers more than 30 hours at the PCYC every month. She is a local Adopt-a-Cop for the Cloncurry Community State School and runs a number of classes such as Self Defence for Cloncurry Youths and Yummy Mummy classes at the gym.
Acting Mayor Bob McDonald commended Ms Rix as a great role model for the community.
Cr McDonald said Cloncurry had a strong community involvement and the Australia Day Awards was the council’s way of showing their appreciation.
Three new Australian citizens – Sanomi Wanigasekera, Jagath Wanigasekera and Upuli Jayatunga – were welcomed into the Cloncurry Shire by Woolworths Australia Day ambassadors Gail Ker and Alison Fairleigh.
A familiar face greeted Cloncurry residents for the town’s Australia Day awards ceremony yesterday. Mayor Andrew Daniels has been battling illness but was adamant he wouldn’t miss the town’s celebrations for the national public holiday.
Cr McDonald said it was a real positive for the community to see Cr Daniels at the event, who is still recovering but on the mend.
