This time last year fuel at $1 a litre was nothing but a distant memory. Now after months of plummeting fuel prices, several Brisbane service stations have smashed through the $1 barrier.

At least six Brisbane servos were offering regular unleaded petrol below the magic mark on Wednesday morning.
Logan drivers were the luckiest as service stations at Slacks Creek, Woodridge, Kingston, Underwood and Springwood all offered 99.7c.
But the northside took the crown for cheapest fuel in Brisbane - 98.7c at United in Virginia.
The startling bargains came as Brisbane's average fuel price slid to a fresh six-year low of 103.4c and the fuel price cycle entered its 78th day.
RACQ media spokeswoman Renee Smith said in January last year prices would shoot up by as much as 15c a litre at the end of a fortnightly cycle but Brisbane's average price had dropped almost every single day for two and a half months.
She said it was great news for motorists and encouraged them to take advantage.
"In the last week or so we've seen some service stations dropping down below a dollar with a discount although it has been really good to see prices are (now) available at some service stations without having those discounts applied," she said.
"We do encourage motorists when they're driving around and seeing these really cheap discounts to make sure there are no conditions attached."
RACQ doesn't have access to prices from every service station in Brisbane, making it possible even more stations sunk below $1.
But not every station was playing the game, with at least one outlet selling fuel for 119.9c, more than 20c a litre more than the cheapest crop.
"That just reinforces the need for motorists to make sure they are shopping around," Ms Smith said.
"When we do have these record prices at some service stations take advantage, don't wait until your tanks almost empty and you're forced to go into just any service stations."
Fuel prices have plummeted on the back of falling global crude oil prices as supply outstripped demand.
Ms Smith said it was hard to predict how cheap prices would get or when they would rise again.
