But Mr Tayler believes he can be independent of Mount Isa Mines and the Queensland Police Service if he is elected as Mount Isa’s state member.
“Without fear and favour,” Mr Tayler promised.
“We are absolute professionals in what we do.”
Mr Tayler said a state member advocated “for the people”.
“My new workplace is the people of Mount Isa,” he said.
“If they [Glencore] are doing the wrong thing, they’re doing the wrong thing.”
The Labor candidate has a young family, similar to that of former ALP state member and current Mount Isa Mayor Tony McGrady.
Cr McGrady previously acknowledged his wife Sandra’s hard work in the electorate while he travelled for periods of time as a cabinet minister.
Mr Tayler could not confirm if Mrs Tayler would represent him in the community while he was at Parliament.
“The one thing I can tell you about my beautiful wife is she is her own person,” Mr Tayler said.
“Whether Michelle or someone else [represents me] is too presumptuous to address at the moment.”
Mr Tayler said he hoped he was elected but he was prepared to put the gun belt back on and return to work next Tuesday.
