Mr Wharton travelled to Doomadgee on Wednesday where he heard concerns from the indigenous community.
He also spoken to council staff about the Doomadgee power station owned by Ergon Energy.
Mr Wharton said a blackout could be resolved immediately but Ergon Energy staff needed to fly to the community to fix the problem – which could take three hours.
There were no Doomadgee based Ergon Energy employees.
But if the community owned the power station then it would allow the council to employ local electricians and offer apprenticeships.
“I’ve been looking for that in a few other communities,” Mr Wharton said.
Securing road funding and water supply was also a key issue, he said.
