This was why ALP might not reveal its infrastructure plans for a year after being elected.
“Labor believes we have to get the basics right first,” Mr Tayler said.
Mr Tayler said the party wanted to focus on health cuts, education, and assets, and wanted to be plan cautiously before committing to large projects.’’
Mr Tayler wanted additional infrastructure in the electorate that would benefit generations to come.
LNP candidate John Wharton said the ALP was “very good at drawing up plans,” and had done so many times the previous 15 years.
“They only have to go to MITEZ [Mount Isa to Townsville Economic Zone] and they’ll tell you what the infrastructure needs are,’’ he said.
Mount Isa State Member Rob Katter said he did not know why ALP announced it would not commit to infrastructure until a year in term.
The two parties were not serious about making the Queensland regions more productive, Mr Katter said.
