Residents are invited to sample the huge selection of sports on offer in Mount Isa at the Super Sport Expo on Sunday at Good Shepherd Catholic College.
Kicking off at 10am at the Lumen Christi Centre, the free community event, being held for the second year, provides a one-stop shop for children and adults to sign up to different sports, register to volunteer or simply find out what events are coming up.
Sporting groups can register to host a stall to promote their sport to potential participants.
Mayor Tony McGrady said the sporting initiative – run entirely by the Mount Isa City Council – was aimed at boosting participation numbers and benefiting the region’s sporting bodies.
“This is a great initiative to help inform the community of the wide variety of sporting activities available to them,” Cr McGrady said.
“There is no shortage of sporting opportunities available in Mount Isa and the council is dedicated to ensuring residents don’t miss out.”
Chair of Sport and Beautification Cr Kim Coghlan urged all sporting bodies to take part.
“It is an excellent opportunity to promote your sport to a wider audience and get more people involved,” Cr Coghlan said.
Encouraging people to attend the expo and get behind local sport, Cr Coghlan said playing a sport or volunteering was a great way to get active and meet new people.
“I’d love to see as many people as possible come along to the event – there are more than 40 sporting bodies in Mount Isa, so you won’t know what you could be missing out on if you don’t check out what’s available,” she said.
