At about 4am they woke up to two armed men threatening them with a gun and a block of wood, police believe.
It's believed the men broke into the home on Sturt St, Molendinar, at about 4am before threatening the occupants.
Police are looking for both men after they fled the scene but don't have a description to go on.
The men were only described as wearing dark clothing.
Police say they threatened the residents with the gun and the block of wood before a scuffle broke out but no one was injured.
The incident is being classified as a burglary with violence but nothing was taken.
A Queensland Police Service spokeswoman said the 52-year-old man and 37-year-old woman who were threatened were not a couple.
