A 26-YEAR-OLD Soldiers Hill man has been charged with seriously assaulting a police officer and obstructing police during a fare evasion offence early Sunday morning.

Police were investigating a fare evasion offence when they attended an Erap Street property at 12.30am.
It is alleged the man punched the police officer in the head after pushing him into the wall.
The man has been charged with seriously assaulting and obstructing police and is due to appear in the Mount Isa Magistrates Court on February 16.
The officer had bruises and swelling allegedly caused by the assault.
