Independent Sunshine Coast MP  Peter Wellington and Katter's Australian Party MPs Robbie Katter and Shane Knuth are looking increasingly like holding the balance of power in their hands, with the latest vote count making either party winning government on their own unlikely.

Labor looks like having won 43 seats, with the LNP mostly likely claiming 39.  Four seats remained in doubt on Sunday afternoon, the results close enough to mean a final count may not be finished for days.

But with the LNP predicted to hold onto Mansfield and Glass House, Whitsundays and Maryborough look like Labor's best chances of securing a majority win.

While Maryborough, at this stage, looks like falling to Labor's Bruce Saunders on preferences, the LNP's Jason Costigan remained ahead in the Whitsundays.

If the LNP picks up all four seats it could still retain government with the support of the two Katter party MPs.

Both signed a pledge late last year to contest the government's asset lease and privatisation plan but on Sunday Robbie Katter, who retained his seat of Mt Isa, said he did not have "any pre-conceived ideas" of who the party would support.

"All we have is a list of priorities which we feel best reflect the interests of our electorates but at the same time, deliver for Queensland," he said.

"If given the opportunity, we will be presenting those to both the major parties and see who best aligns with them and make a decision after consultation with the party."

Mr Wellington was more absolute, committing to supporting Labor in the event of a hung parliament based on its anti-privatisation and asset lease promise.

"I have already given a commitment that if I was to be re-elected I would not support the LNP's proposed asset sales, which is clearly the difference between Labor and the LNP," he said.

But neither the Katter Party MPs nor Mr Wellington had been enamoured of the Newman Government, with both coming under attack by senior ministers and MPs.

"We tried to tell them in the first 12 months of the last parliament to work with us since we delivered them 14 seats that would have gone to Labor," said Mr Katter, who has received 200 text messages since the election results began rolling in on Saturday evening.

"Particularly Townsville which, if we were resourced, we could have made an impact in.

"But they were too arrogant, stupid, politically naive I suppose and obsessed with kicking us and guess what?  Now we have all three Townsville seats delivered to Labor.

"They have been the architect of their own destruction and I think they have demonstrated they have the mortgage on arrogance.

"But don't take that as endorsement of Labor.  Like I said, we have no pre-conceived ideas.  We will do what we think is best for our electorates and Queensland if we are given that opportunity."

Mr Wellington believed the government had received its "just desserts" with the election result based on their style of governing.

"They turned the Crime and Corruption Commission from a watchdog to a lap dog of the government, their dictatorial way of dealing with matters, their arrogance and how they were not prepared to consult," Mr Wellington said.

"Just their my-way-or-the-highway attitude, their take your medicine, it's good for you.

"I think they just abused the powers they were granted and they have got their just desserts from the electorate."
