Nicholas Glen and Bec Mountford have fielded question after question about the mysterious world of living with hair that isn't red or blonde since taking their crowns as the country's most attractive redheads in Brisbane's King George Square on Thursday.

Sydney carrot top Nicholas said he was surprised by the attention, which included a spot on breakfast show Sunrise on Friday morning.

"It's funny, I haven't really done much, just had red hair," the 23-year-old said.

"Sunrise, I think's crazy. It's national and everything."

Both winners are the only gingers in their family, so they're used to standing out, but neither has had this much attention before.

"I've never been in the public eye really before at all, so to have to share, I guess, not too personal but sometimes personal things (is strange)," Bec, from Perth, said.

"It is strange to read about it, but it's also cool to see photos of yourself."

But despite having to field such inane questions as "So … do many of your friends have red hair?" and "What was it like growing up as a ginger?", the young winners are enjoying themselves.

After all, along with their ginger hottie titles, they both picked up a free trip to Queensland for the final, a 12-month modelling gig and a share in a prize package worth $15,000.

It's part of a promotional push by The Ginger Factory, on the Sunshine Coast hinterland, which usually focuses on producing gingers of the plant variety.

Bec had considered modelling before, but Nicholas said it had never even crossed his mind as a career option.

Both red-headed lookers are excited to give it a try, but overall, their reaction to the attention is: "What's the big deal?"

"I'm not a different species, it's just a different hair colour," Bec said.

"I got teased just like everybody else did. It's just a different thing."

The winners travelled to The Ginger Factory on Friday to check out culinary namesake.
