The 46-year-old died on Friday, it is believed a blood clot formed while he was in the rehabilitation stage of his recovery from an underground incident at the Glencore-operated Cloncurry mine.
The Cairns-based FIFO worker was involved in the mining incident on February 1 at Ernest Henry Mine.
He was transferred to Cairns Base Hospital to be closer to his family as he underwent rehabilitation.
Hundreds of comments on social media paid tribute to the man his mates called “Tas”.
“Kuranda and Koah folk probably know Jason as Tas,” one commenter posted.
“I knew him as one of the inaugural committee members in the setting up of the Kuranda Rainforest Raiders Junior Rugby League Club with which both his children, Declan and Molly played, and Tas also coached the under 10s. He was a top bloke. Such sad news and condolences to his family.”
“RIP Tas Braid ... A top bloke. You will be missed mate,” one commenter posted.
A report will be made by the coroner’s office into Mr Braid’s death.
