For 15 years, Mr Tuppurainen has had long hair but he’s about to shave it off in the name of charity for Shave for a Cure.
Mr Tuppurainen hopes to raise $5000 for the big shave, which will take place at The Shack on March 14.
On the night there will be live music, a sausage sizzle and raffles. All money raised will go to the Leukaemia Foundation.
“A lot of people I know through the business have never seen me without long hair,” Mr Tuppurainen said.
“They are saying it will be a sight to see and I hope they all get behind the cause.
“We are looking for a couple of major sponsors to get up on stage and cut the ponytail off.”
Samantha Scougall, of hairdressing salon A Cut Above, will have the honours of doing the shave, along with major sponsors who will have the chance to cut off Mr Tuppurainen’s ponytail.
Mr Tuppurainen is a musical aficionado and plays in a band – and he admits shaving his hair off is bucking the trend of musicians who are meant to have long hair.
Mr Tuppurainen said anyone wanting to join in on the night to help raise money were welcome to get on stage and do the shave. There will be a gold coin donation at the door with proceeds going towards the Leukaemia Foundation.
Mount Isa LJ Hooker will be doing their part for charity with a cupcake day on February 25 to support Mr Tuppurainen.
Orders can be made by calling the Mount Isa L J Hooker office on 47435911 or through email at mountisa@ljh.com.au.
Cupcakes will cost $3 each, and there is a wide variety of flavours to choose from.
There will be chocolate, vanilla, red velvet, Maltesers, Snickers, choc cherry (gluten free), banana choc chip, carrot cake and more.
Not only is LJ Hooker helping out with a bake sale, employee Ranita Toholke will do the shave as well if Mr Tuppurainen raises $10,000.
