It will be the first time Mount Isa has hosted the tournament, starring leading players of the game across the nation.
Australian under-18 player Sam Burnett will be the key player for Mount Isa but he will have strong opposition from experienced players on the national circuit.
Australian vice-captain Mark Bradley and Kris Jones will both play for Townsville.
Former Queensland player Darryl James also represents Townsville – one of the sides likely to be hardest to beat at the event.
Former junior champion Matt Gartrell plays for the Kuranda-Innisfail side and Cairns will be one of the other danger sides with Queensland and Australian reserve player Nathan Keogh.
For the Mount Isa team, Burnett will be joined by the city’s number one player Dave Lynton to lead the home side.
Mount Isa Pool Association secretary Garth Apps expects a big crowd for the biggest eight ball event held in Mount Isa.
Apps said the sport was growing exponentially in the city with more than 120 players registered in the local competition.
Six teams will compete in the two-day action, representing sides from Mount Isa, Townsville, Cairns, Kuranda, Innisfail, Cape York and the Tablelands.
The tournament offers a unique chance to watch Queensland and Australian representatives take on Mount Isa players, as well as other associations from North Queensland.
Six Mount Isa teams will be in action with two a grade, two b grade and two ladies’ teams representing the city.
The action starts at 10am on Saturday and Sunday at the Barkly Hotel in Mount Isa, where there will be non-stop action with nine tables in play.
