Mount Isa residents Sean Harman and Bones Rayner will take part in this year’s Shitbox Rally from Canberra to Townsville, via Birdsville, to raise money for the Cancer Council.
The pair have entered this year’s competition as team Redneck Rampage and start their seven-day drive on May9.
The Shitbox Rally was founded by James Freeman after he lost both of his parents to cancer.
Each car in the rally has to be valued at less than $1000 and the car cannot be four-wheel drive.
Mr Rayner said their beat up Ford, or any normal car for that matter, was not ideal on outback roads.
“Our shitbox is a busted-arse EF XR8 Falcon, which would be lucky to be worth $100,” he said.
“It does need a bit of work before we take it, but not too much.
“A new set of tyres is a must, then a few extras like indicators and a nose cone.
“But hey, it’s a shitbox, it doesn’t need to be flash, just safe.”
Redneck Rampage needs the community’s help to raise a minimum of $4000 to participate in the rally.
To donate, become a major sponsor or to donate car parts, contact the team through their Facebook page Redneck Rampage Shitbox Rally 2015 Fundraising Page.
Mr Rayner said all donations would receive a tax receipt and business sponsors could place logo on the car.
