The council will host an open day at the facility so sponsors and contractors can see its potential.
The camp at Lake Moondarra closed in 2009 due to uneconomic conditions, but in August the Mount Isa Water Board leased it to the Mount Isa City Council.
Since then local groups have worked on restoration, including the corrective services, the council, the Christian Outreach Centre, the Catholic Youth Group and the PCYC.
Mayor Tony McGrady believed with “a little bit more tender love and care” it would be one of Queensland’s leading camps for youth.
“We often hear people talking about our kids getting up to mischief and claims there is nothing here for them to do.
“This camp will alleviate that problem and provide them with a brilliant facility where they can create memories like those which so many people have of time spent at the Lions Youth Camp.”
The push to restore the camp was part of the council’s plan to make Mount Isa more liveable, Cr McGrady said.
In August the Mount Isa Water Board chairwoman Rowena McNally said the camp would be leased to the council on several conditions.
She said it must be made available to the community, the council was to arrange for the camp’s upkeep, and it could only be used for recreational reasons.
The camp would be a local “jewel in the crown” and overlooked a recently filled Lake Moondarra.
