Brown resigned as Greyhound Racing Queensland ambassador last week after a Four Corners expose revealed the use of live baiting in the sport.

The Brisbane Lions triple premiership player had a long involvement with greyhound racing, dating back to his teenage days, before taking on the official role in October last year.

Brown said he had no choice but to step down from his role but was confident the industry would recover.

"The greyhounds do a lot of good things but it's not for me to be part of the campaign at the moment," he said.

"It's certainly a dark day for greyhounds or a dark time for greyhounds.

"The greyhounds all around Australia need to get their house in order.

"Sometimes it takes a scandal like this to really tidy your sport up and to make it acceptable to the wider community and the general public."

The backlash against the greyhound industry has been significant, with major sponsors pulling out of the sport and high level officials forced to resign in the wake of the allegations.

Queensland's racing integrity officer Wade Birch was the latest to be stood down from his position in the wake of the Four Corners expose.

Brown said the footage was "disappointing" viewing.

"I thought that sort of thing wouldn't have gone on especially in this day and age but unfortunately there's always going to be people trying to gain an advantage," he said.

"It's pretty graphic for everyone to see even for someone like myself who's been involved in the industry all along.

"I think that's why it carried so much credibility, the story, just because the big names were involved and obviously former stewards were involved as well."

Queensland trainers Reg Kay, Debra Arnold, Tom Noble, Tony McCabe, James Harding, Michael Chapman and Greg Stella were issued with show cause notices last Thursday in relation to live baiting allegations, with seven days to respond.

If the trainers fail to respond to the notices, they will be prevented from visiting any racecourse in Queensland, placing a bet or training, preparing or owning a greyhound.

The Racing Queensland board will meet on Monday to consider any submissions, though there is no guarantee a decision will be made on the trainers' futures then.

Six other Queensland trainers remain suspended as the investigation continues.

Racing minister Bill Byrne has been unavailable for comment this week as he returned to his electorate of Rockhampton for the Tropical Cyclone Marcia clean up.
