A burst water main has caused major traffic delays on a key thoroughfare in Brisbane's east, throwing the morning commute into chaos.

A sinkhole opened up on the inbound lanes of Lytton Road in Murarrie when the water main burst about 3am Friday.
Two inbound lanes and one outbound lane are closed between the Gateway Motorway and Creek Road and repair work is expected to take several hours.
Delays are expected to persist trhoughout the morning.
Traffic is banked back through Murarrie and Cannon Hill, according to the Australian Traffic Network, and there are major delays in both directions on Wynnum Road.
Police are urging motorists to avoid the thoroughfare and seek an alternative route.
Queensland Urban Utilities is working to repair the water main and traffic control and emergency services are onsite.
