An elderly man was bashed by three people in an apparently random attack in a Rockhampton street on Thursday.

The 79-year-old was attacked from behind as he walked along a street in Allenstown, in the Central Queensland city's south, just after 8pm.
He was taken to hospital with injuries to his ribs and face.
Three people fled the scene on foot.
A police spokesman said the man was not robbed.
Police are seeking public assistance to identify the trio.
They say the attackers were last seen running along Lower Dawson Road and into parklands.
