A driver called police about noon after seeing what they thought might have been a swimmer struggling in the river, kicking off a large scale search involving water police, land crews and two helicopters.
A police spokesman said police hadn't received reports of anyone missing and would stop the search at nightfall if no further information came in.

An air, land and water search is under way in the Brisbane River after reports of a swimmer in trouble in Hamilton.
A passing motorist saw what appeared to be someone in distress in the water near the Bretts Wharf ferry terminal and called police about noon.
The motorist was driving along busy Kingsford Smith Drive and told police it had not been possible to stop to investigate further.
At least two water police crews are taking part in the search, along with officers on both sides of the river and the CareFlight rescue helicopter.
A Queensland police spokesman said crews were searching the river in response to the call but were yet to receive any reports of people missing from the area.
He said police divers were not involved in the search.
It's not clear how wide a section of the Brisbane River is being searched.
