CONSISTENT sprinter Carry Me appears on track for a successful campaign after romping to an impressive five-length win at Buchanan Park on Saturday.
The $4 second favourite in the feature race of the day, the 1000-metre Open Handicap, led from start to finish with jockey Shaun Mossman aboard.
The Justin Bawden-trained sprinter gave his rivals no chance, burning to the front from barrier 3, and maintaining a blistering turn of speed over the sprint distance.
Carry Me has now won with authority twice at the Mount Isa circuit after scoring a 3 length victory in September last year during a string of three successive wins.
The seven-year-old is a model of consistency, never finishing worse than third from his past nine outings.
The Grant Wiles-trained and Steven Galvin-ridden Ghost Train ($7) finished second from Strumming($18), steered by Tim Brummell and prepared by Tanya Parry.
In other races, $21 outsider What The Heck upset $1.80 favourite Cipriani in the opening race, taking out the maiden plate (900m) for trainer Kerry Krogh and Brummell.
The Philip Miller-trained Reformer ($3.30) scored a classy win in the Class B Handicap (900m) with Matthew Hart in the saddle to remain unbeaten in the region since transferring from Victoria.
Mimi’s Rocket ($5) took out the Class 3 Plate (900m) in a race filled with drama as $3.30 favourite Power Report dumped leading jockey Aaron Spradau as the gates opened.
Spradau was uninjured in the fall, but was a little sore.
The David Smith-trained Masataka ($4) scored in the Benchmark 60 Handicap (1100m) with jockey Tash Chambers confident the galloper was in for a winning campaign after taking out a race at a distance short of his best.
