The ‘steak verses steak’ competition will be held this week, pitting the Ibis Hotel, Carpentaria Buffalo Club, Barkly Hotel, Red Earth Hotel and Overlander Hotel up against each other for the crown.
Chefs from the restaurants will be cooking up a storm for those who order the ‘Steak of Origin Special’.
The people of Mount Isa will have their say by going to their favourite establishment and ordering the ‘Steak of Origin Special’ and then placing their votes in the venue’s barrel.
A receipt with the steak of origin printed on it is required for those who vote.
On Friday, March 6, a panel of judges will go around to each establishment to judge each restaurants ‘steak of origin special’ and determine who the winner for the Judge’s Award will be.
Voting closes at midnight on March 8, with the people’s choice winner and the judge’s winner being announced on Monday, March 9.
Mount Isa Rotary Rodeo Queen Quest entrant Whitney Dickson, fundraising on behalf of Neighbourhood Watch Mount Isa, said the competition is sure to be tight.
“The results were so close last year; this time around we really wanted to make an even bigger event of it by opening up voting for three weeks instead of over one weekend,” she said.
“We wanted more of Mount Isa to be able to have their say.
“If you think your favourite restaurant has the best steaks, get voting.”
Isa Hotel won last year’s Judge’s Award for the best steak in Mount Isa, with the Barkly Hotel winning the People’s Choice Award.
To vote for your favourite steak, ask for the ‘Steak of Origin Special’ at the Buffalo Club, Ibis Hotel, Barkly Hotel, Red Earth Hotel or Overlander Hotel and enter your vote in the voting box at the venue.
