Justin Hodges has been elevated to the sole captaincy of the Broncos after a season as co-captain with Parker, but the 299-gamer said it wouldn't affect his approach on the field.

"Nothing's going to change with me," he said.

"I'm still me and I'm not going to all of a sudden change overnight.

"We've got leaders in all sorts of different departments on the field so I'm sure we'll all have an input."

Parker was one of the first to congratulate good friend Hodges on his appointment, announced last Friday.

"He's a good mate of mine and obviously Hodgo's the captain and I endorse that," he said.

"I think it's a great achievement and, as I said, he's a good mate so it was only right for me to go and congratulate him."

Thursday night's season opener will mark a new start for the Broncos, with 32-year-old Parker one of just five Broncos in the current squad to have been at Red Hill the last time coach Wayne Bennett steered the side.

And Parker is as pumped as anyone to see star recruit Anthony Milford play his first match at Suncorp Stadium.

"I'm as excited as all the fans to see Anthony Milford run around," he said.

"I get to train with him every day and see the skill he's got but he's only really scratched the surface in terms of playing in a Broncos jersey so I'm excited to see that."

Despite being one of the most hotly chased players last season, Milford's recruitment to the Broncos has not been as talked about as some big-gun recruits in the past, with the return of Bennett to the club.

Parker said he hadn't gone under the internal radar at Red Hill, though.

"Milf's a superstar in his own right," he said.

"The more time he gets to play in a Broncos jersey and the cohesion he gets with (halfback) Benny Hunt will be better for us.

"Not sure if he's scraping under the radar, there's still plenty of pressure on him, mainly due to you guys (media), but that's understandable."

While he might be excited to see the flashiness of Milford, the inclusion of former Tiger Adam Blair could be of the greatest benefit for Parker.

Blair will beef up the side's forwards, and Parker said his addition to the pack would help unleash himself and Sam Thaiday.

"He's a great acquisition for us, and going off the game we played over in England I thought he did a great job in the middle," Parker said.

"It does give myself and Sam an opportunity to get back on the edges or in particular, me, a bit of a roving sort of role."
