Remote area specialists with a love of the Australian bush, Ben and Louise Lanyon have taken up the role at the iconic pub.
The pair bring a range of skills and experience to the North Gregory that have been developed through past roles in some of Australia’s most unique and special places including Southern Ocean Lodge, Kangaroo Island; Spicer’s Peak, Scenic Rim; and Wrotham Park in Outback Queensland.
“Our great passion lies in meeting new people, exploring the Outback, and offering genuine Australian hospitality,” Mr Lanyon said.
“Our aim at the North Gregory is to take the history of the property and its role in the development of the region and create a unique experience for both the Winton locals and also for the travelling public.”
The North Gregory Hotel has a history almost as old as the Outback, with the pub key in the founding of Qantas, and more importantly is the place of the first ever public performance of our unofficial anthem – Waltzing Matilda.
The famous pub gives tourists the opportunity to walk the same balcony as Banjo Patterson, and sit in the lounge where the Qantas founders first met over a cold beer.
