On the day Jarryd Hayne is set to announce an NFL contract, Parramatta Eels chief executive Scott Seward acknowledged the club has discussed holding a pre-season game in the US to capitalise on the former fullback's profile.

Hayne will hold a news conference in Sydney on Tuesday afternoon to announce a futures contract with an NFL club, believed to be the Detroit Lions, after receiving interest from three clubs.

The San Francisco 49ers and Seattle Seahawks, who the Eels visited during their pre-season training camp in the States last year, were the other clubs Hayne was weighing up before making his decision on Monday. The Eels are set to capitalise on Hayne's US foray, mapping out a plan to cash in on the former rugby league superstar's switch to American football.

Part of that plan, which includes a range of commercial opportunities, is a vision to take a game to the US. Seward agreed the club had spoken about the prospect. "It is certainly something we've had a look at for a pre-season game or some sort of exhibition match," he said.

"It's not on our agenda for the next 12 months but it is something we've spoken about and had discussions over for the future. Jarryd being over there will give us that additional exposure. The All Blacks played in front of a sell-out crowd at Soldier Field in Chicago. The commercial benefits would be significant for the club.

"With Jarryd earning a contract, it's certainly value to both the club and the game to see our brand being seen by millions of eyeballs in the US. If we knock on the door of an American company, they're much more likely to have seen or heard of us. That's something we have to take advantage of. People have seen Jarryd Hayne in a Parramatta jersey on ESPN and CBS – that helps us."

Former Eels trainer Hayden Knowles, who flew to the US in October when Hayne embarked on his NFL pursuit, said he saw an incredible level of dedication from the 27-year-old from the moment he departed home soil.

"From the minute we got on the plane, he threw his iPad on and started studying the game," Knowles said.

"He lived and breathed NFL from when he got on that plane. The first day we got there we went and bought an NFL ball and he wanted to go the park straight away. The first thing he did at night was to get me to read out the running routes of a playbook. As soon as I read them, Jarryd knew them and ran them correctly. He prepared for that pro day like he was in fight camp. It was like a world title preparation, he was so professional and so hungry.

"A lot of clubs wanted to see Jarryd, but he waited until he was fully prepared to put himself on show. They wanted to see him and lay eyes on him. He didn't let anyone see him or what he was doing until he was ready to perform. That was the day they had the big pro day and invited scouts."
