Glenn was a regular starter under former coach Anthony Griffin last season but the competition for a starting spot has heated up with the return of Wayne Bennett and an influx of new players.

The second-rower said that competition had only made his pre-season more straightforward.

"There's a lot of experience in my position so it's made me work hard and make sure there were no grey areas coming into those trials," he said.

With utility Matt Gillett recovering from shoulder surgery and not travelling to last month's World Club Series, Glenn had the chance to push his starting chances in the side's win against Wigan and the February 7 trial against the Cowboys.

"I've got a lot of confidence out of my first two trials and I've got to make sure I'm doing all the hard work at training and giving myself every opportunity to put my hands up for the 17 that goes out on the field."

Glenn said Bennett had simplified the team's organisation across the park, eliminating any crossed wires.

"He's simplified our defence structure and also our attack so it's a lot less confusing," he said.

"Our last two trials, it's been a great stepping stone leading into the season so we're all excited and we just can't wait for it to start already."

Glenn said Bennett's changes had already made a noticeable impact on the playing group.

"It just limits your confusion out there so everyone's on the same page," Glenn said.

"That definitely makes a difference.

"When everyone's on the same page there's no fault in your defensive line or in your attack.

"Everyone knows where we're going."

Broncos veteran Corey Parker likened the return of Bennett to a "pair of old slippers", in that it was a natural fit for the club, but said he had re-energised the side.

"He's been really refreshing for the club, he made it very clear when he first came back that things were going to change and change for the better," he said.

"I think he's done a lot of things to implement that.

"There are only a handful of us guys that have actually played under Wayne so for the majority of the group it's all very new, which is a good thing."

Brisbane has had one of the busiest pre-seasons, travelling to the UK for the World Club Series, and Glenn said the side was better for the experience.

The Broncos pulled off a thrilling 14-12 win over Wigan in the tournament, which Glenn is hoping sets the tone for Thursday night's clash against the Rabbitohs.

"Last weekend's game over in the World Club (Series) gave us a lot of confidence and we were all sitting in the sheds after the game, keeping our heads high knowing that we did our job out there," he said.

"That's what we play for, that feeling of success and great achievement.

"It was a great feeling, especially playing over there in front of Wigan's home crowd, and getting a strong win like that was the ultimate.

"We always say the way you train is the way you play.

"So, we had a very tough pre-season and it was a lot of long days but we've been putting in the hard work and we're all determined to make sure that we have a strong season."
