Samantha Ann Sweeney, 31, killed partner Troy Staunton on December 24, 2012, following a heated argument.
She was sentenced by Justice Jim Henry in the Mount Isa Supreme Court on Tuesday.
Justice Henry took into account the two years and two months Sweeney spent in custody when setting her parole eligibility date to April 24, 2015.
On Monday, Sweeney pleaded guilty to manslaughter after the charge was reduced from murder.
There were no eyewitness accounts of the manslaughter, but the defendant’s quotes to an undercover police officer disguised as a prisoner were used as evidence.
Sweeney told the police officer while in custody that Mr Staunton dragged her by the throat, urinated on her and hosed her off, but she could not remember what happened after that.
The couple were in what was described a volatile relationship and lived in a shed on a property belonging to a family member of Mr Staunton.
Ambulance paramedics could not revive Mr Staunton and he was declared dead at 1.30am.
Justice Henry said a psychological report revealed Sweeney had a lengthy history of abusive relationships and post-traumatic stress disorder, which caused a “hyper arousal” in the defendant when threatened by Mr Staunton.
Police found Sweeney asleep on the shed floor, and the steak knife she used hidden under an oil drum.
Her blood alcohol level was 0.148.
A toxicology report found amphetamines in Mr Staunton’s blood, and that he had an alcohol reading of 0.122.
