A caller to radio station 3AW's Rumour File on Thursday morning said glam metal veterans Kiss will headline the 2015 AFL grand final.

The same caller suggested AFL chief executive Gillon McLachlan was determined to make his mark in a new era, perhaps with a pot of face paint.

The AFL is keeping mum on the Kiss rumours for now, with a spokesman saying the headline act would be announced in late August or early September.

Coincidentally, Kiss is expected to embark on a tour Down Under in early October.

 

Dates are expected to be announced shortly, but it is likely the band will kick off their Australian tour in Perth, before travelling to Adelaide, Melbourne, Sydney, Newcastle and Brisbane.

The early October start-date fits in nicely for an extra performance at either the AFL or NRL grand finals, which are due to be held on October 3 and October 4 respectively.

But Kiss last topped the charts in the 1970s, and the AFL has come under fire before for relying on "imported has-beens".

There was the Meat Loaf fiasco of 2011, for which the AFL is still seeking forgiveness from some.

Meat Loaf failed to hit the high notes and mumbled into the microphone during his MCG performance. Reaction to the lacklustre, off-key performance was punishing, with "leftover meatloaf" and "meat substitute" among the less savage puns used by fans on social media.

Welsh crooner Tom Jones took to the halftime stage last year, with English singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran.

 

Sir Tom's booming voice filled the MCG effortlessly, but the 74-year-old mistakenly referred to the AFL grand finalists as "rugby players" in a pre-match television interview.

Unfortunately, home-grown acts have also copped their share of sniggers from the outer. Who can forget the Batmobile-assisted performance of Bound for Glory by Angry Anderson at the 1991 VFL grand final?

Will the AFL chief be covered in kisses come that Saturday in October? Only time, and wagging tongues, may tell.
