Tuesday at 5pm has become the most important time of the week for Ultimate League coaches. The blanket release of all the NRL teams at once makes it imperative you keep tabs on who has been selected and who has been dropped.

No more so than on opening week.

Round one can often be one of the most important weeks of the year in Fantasy Football Land. Have your drafted players made the starting team? Which players are still carrying an injury? Who are the surprise packets?

With that in mind, here are my week one winners and losers.

The winners

1. Tom Symonds: The former Roosters forward looks set to build on last year's average of 29 after securing a starting spot in Manly's depleted back row.

2. Ryan James: The injury-plagued Titans forward has a reputation for producing big numbers and will get extra minutes with his move to the back row.

3. Tepai Moeroa: The young gun forms part of a strong back row at Parramatta and has a reputation for a strong work ethic.

4. Joseph Leilua: Widely expected to start the year in NSW Cup, Leilua has beaten Australian representative Sione Mata'utia for a spot in the centres at Newcastle.

The losers

1. Lachlan Coote: After injury wrecked his 2014 season, he was expected to claim the North Queensland No.1 jumper. Unfortunately, Michael Morgan hasn't given it up without a fight.

2. Trent Merrin: The Penrith-bound forward has been named on the St George Illawarra bench, which is a blow for the 80-minute workhorse.

3. Bryce Cartwright: After a great debut year, Cartwright was expected to get a start for the Panthers in round one. However, his time on the bench could be temporary as he gains match fitness.

4. Matt Gillett: The Queensland Origin forward has missed out on Wayne Bennett's starting forward pack for round one. His days as an 80-minute forward may be over with several Broncos players fighting for spots.
