Mr Dank has been passionately fundraising for the group for more than 20 years.
He is getting set for one last fundraising drive in the city, before he leaves his home town of 58 years in Mount Isa to move to Townsville.
Mr Dank said his son Paul was diagnosed with the disease at the age of 18 and was told that he would be in a wheelchair by the time he was 24.
“They said he would be in a wheelchair by the time he was 24 but he wasn’t in a wheelchair until he was 42 and he is now 50 years old,” Mr Dank said.
Mr Dank spoke passionately about Paul’s struggles over the years and said he was proud of the achievements and hard work his son had done.
Mr Dank’s fundraising goal for the year is to reach $5000 and on Friday he will be selling graffiti toys, pens, badges and bow ties.
“I’m looking forward to this day,” he said.
“One year a lady came up to me and said she would like to donate $20 because her brother had the same disease as Paul and that has stayed in my heart for years,” he said.
Mr Dank said he sincerely thanked the whole community for the help and support they had shown him, his family and the Queensland Muscular Dystrophy Association over the years.
To show your support for Mr Dank and a great cause, donate or buy merchandise at his stand at McCarthy’s Newsagency between 9am and 6pm on Friday to help him raise $5000.
