The relationship between George Street and City Hall has often been strained, none more so than between 2007 and 2011, a period of high tension between then-lord mayor Campbell Newman and then-premier Anna Bligh.

Antagonism between the levels of government has not always followed party lines.

Labor premier Peter Beattie's relationship with Liberal lord mayor Campbell Newman was, for example, much warmer than his relationship with Labor lord mayor Jim Soorley.

But in their first joint media conference on Saturday, to commemorate the return of the eternal flame to Brisbane's Shrine of Remembrance, Ms Palaszczuk and Cr Quirk appeared keen to start things on a positive note.

"I've known the lord mayor for many years and we've always had a very good working relationship," Ms Palaszczuk said.

Cr Quirk said it was in both of their interests to work together.

"We're both elected to do that and that's got to be our primary responsibility," he said.

"Politics goes aside and we get on with the job. That's where I'll be coming from and I thank the Premier for her sentiments in that regard as well."

While divided along party lines, Ms Palaszczuk and Cr Quirk shared a common bond.

In a quirk of history, they were both preceded in their current roles by Mr Newman.

And as for next week's meeting, Cr Quirk said the agenda was "a matter the Premier and I" and would not disclose what issues would be discussed.

"We've got to work through a range of items and also just the operating arrangements between the council and the state," he said.

"With every new administration you've got to work those things through, so it'll be a high-level meeting."

Ms Palaszczuk's conciliatory tone towards the Lord Mayor did not extend to Cr Quirk's LNP colleagues in State Parliament.

The Premier hit back at Opposition criticism that the number of parliamentary sitting days had been reduced from 45 during the first year of the Newman government to just 27 in 2015.

Opposition Leader Lawrence Springborg said it demonstrated the Labor Party did not have any plans for government.

"It's probably indicative of a few things: a) the government didn't expect to win; b) it needs time to actually work out what it's going to do; c) it's protecting what are inexperienced ministers; and d) it's giving more time for ministers to get across their portfolios, given they're inexperienced and their portfolios have been supersized," he told Fairfax Media.

"That's the real issue here and there still has not been a reasonable explanation by the Premier about why there has been so few parliamentary sitting days scheduled for this year."

Ms Palaszczuk said she would "not be lectured to" by the Opposition over questions of accountability.

"[The LNP] rushed legislation through with very little debate, with urgency motion after urgency motion," she said.

"They wanted to avoid scrutiny; they shut down the estimates committees to avoid scrutiny.

"Not only that, they [also] sacked the PCMC, which all Queenslanders were aghast about.

"My government will be a government of integrity and accountability; my ministers will face questions from the Opposition and we will debate legislation thoroughly."

Mr Springborg said accountability was "about making sure Parliament sits enough to properly scrutinise the government and legislation".
