Mayor Tony McGrady and chief executive Emilio Cianetti will visit the ministers for mines, water, environment, housing and racing.
The original motion was for deputy mayor Brett Peterson to accompany the mayor to Brisbane, but after it was passed last Wednesday during the full council meeting, Cr Joyce McCulloch objected.
She believed it was a “smarter move” to send Mr Cianetti instead of the deputy mayor, as he was in charge of the council’s operations.
Cr McGrady criticised her delay in objecting until after the motion was passed – to which Cr McCulloch replied: “I was thinking about it”.
Cr Peterson said he was happy to cover his own expenses, but Cr McCulloch said other councillors should be granted the option to do so as well.
Cr McGrady said he wanted to meet with Leeanne Enoch about the lack of water and restrictions in place for the city’s housing commission sites across the city.
He said the water issues meant many houses no longer had grass and it was a dangerous scenario with lead exposure increased because of the dirt.
“We need an alternative to cover that soil,” he said.
A meeting with Minister for Water Supply Mark Bailey was to ensure he “fully understood the water problems facing Mount Isa”.
Minister for Racing Bill Byrne will meet with Cr McGrady to fast-track an agreement between Mount Isa City Council and the Mount Isa Race Club.
