Delighted to have had a breakthrough NAB Challenge win over Melbourne on Friday night with a team consisting of seven first-choice players because of provisional suspensions, Hird says he is "confident" the Bombers will have their entire list - injuries permitting - available to take on the Swans at ANZ Stadium.

"We are preparing to have our best team, and we are confident that will happen," he said after a stirring two-point win over the Demons.

The Bombers have 17 players provisionally suspended after it was alleged they were administered a banned drug during the club's 2012 supplements program. Their fate will be known on March 31.

"Our other guys (the 17) had a great session today. We had 16 or 17 guys train and they were terrific, so we think they are ready to go round one," Hird said.

"We think these guys are ready to go round one, so we now have 14 days to prepare for round one. We think we are going to pick the best side we possibly can and go to Sydney and try and win the game, which whoever we have, we are pretty confident will be our best side.

"We think we are going to have our best team. We are preparing to have our best team."

If they are cleared by the anti-doping tribunal, the next question will be how mentally prepared and match-hardened the likes of skipper Jobe Watson will be, considering they have not played a match through the pre-season competition.

It's an unknown Hird cannot truly answer, although he is confident the Bombers' training staff and coaches have done the best they can.

"Who knows? We are not going to know until quarter time in the Sydney game, or half-time in the Sydney game, really, how match-hardened we are," he said.

"We might not know until five minutes to go in the Sydney game. But we are very confident with the program we have put in place. We are very confident the guys have trained extremely hard and we have prepared them to play a game in round one.

"We knew this was probably going to happen five or six weeks ago when we got told that we had to change our program and get them ready without playing games and we are confident they are.

"Maybe that confidence is not deserved, but as I said we are confident that will be ready for round one and they will play really well, but we don't know until 6.30pm on two Saturdays time."

Having lost their opening two NAB Challenge matches, against St Kilda and Greater Western Sydney, the Bombers begin a four-day break with renewed spirits after Lauchlan Dalgleish intercepted a dreadful pass from Demon Jack Viney with less than two minutes left on the clock and kicked what proved to be the winning goal.

Martin Gleeson and Elliott Kavanagh were particularly good after half-time, while top-up player Mitch Brown was impressive on young Demon forward Jesse Hogan. Brendon Goddard and Adam Cooney had found plenty of the ball through the opening three quarters, while Hird was happy with the development of Jason Ashby and Zach Merrett through the summer.

"We will train pretty hard last next week, then treat the week before the Sydney game as a normal week, obviously with a big event in the middle of it," Hird said.

Demons coach Paul Roos said Viney's poor kick inside defensive 50 was lesson for the entire team, not just the young midfielder.

"We spoke about it after the game - just that real ability to play as a team. You would like to think more guys are talking to him and directing him and letting him know what's going on," he said.

"That's the next stage for us as a group - it's less about the individual but more about the team."

Roos was delighted with the efforts of Heritier Lumumba, who had a game-high 31 disposals, and speedy forward Jeff Garlett, who, having made an appearance in court earlier on Friday, finished the night with four goals.
