Light rain falling on parts of the coast could intensify significantly if storm activity dumping heavy rain offshore makes its way back west, according to the Bureau of Meteorology.
The bureau cancelled a severe weather warning shortly before 4.50am but BOM senior forecaster Michelle Berry said there was at least a 50 per cent chance of the storms moving back on shore.
"There's some heavy shower and storm activity just off the coast at the moment," she said.
"It's not moving very quickly but there is some possibility of it getting at least to the coastal fringe this morning and then we should see other development through inland parts mid-morning into early afternoon."
Miss Berry said conditions were likely to clear throughout the afternoon, leaving mostly fine conditions by the evening.
Severe thunderstorms swept across Brisbane on Sunday, halting train services, an A-League match at Suncorp Stadium and an inner-city fun run.
Most of south east Queensland recorded falls of more than 50 millimetres, with Noosa Heads copping 123 millimetres.
On Bribie Island, east of Caboolture, the upper trough dumped 71 millimetres in just an hour.
BOM forecaster Adam Woods said there was flash flooding in Coomera, Carina, Cannon Hill and Morningside.
Residents of Chinchilla, west of Dalby, spent Sunday cleaning up after Saturday's severe storms.
The Chronicle reported born and bred Chinchilla local Rob Hart had never seen anything like the hail storm that swept across the region on Saturday evening.
A team of SES volunteers were on hand at Mr Hart's Chinchilla-Wondai Road home on Sunday, after cricket ball-sized hailstones caused extensive damage to the roof and ceilings.
"Tiles on the roof were smashed, and the ceiling collapsed from all the water coming in," Mr Hart said.
"I've never seen anything near it."
Chinchilla SES Group Leader Kevin Mizen said his team had attended 30 properties by mid-morning on Sunday, but expected that number to rise.
