Lockyer Valley toddlers Caiden, 2, and Tyson, 15 months, drowned last week in two separate tragedies in two days.

Caiden went missing on Thursday afternoon and his body was found hours later in a dam on his family's Hatton Vale property.

The Chronicle reported Tyson died in a Brisbane hospital Saturday night after falling into a partially filled swimming pool at his family's Hewett Dr home in Regency Downs shortly before 5.30pm on Friday.

The boy's mother found him shortly after he fell in and attempted CPR before paramedics arrived to resuscitate him and take him to the the Lady Cilento Children's Hospital.

Detective Sergeant Gillespie said the properly fenced pool was being drained at the time and police were investigating how he got into the water.

The two deaths bring to 14 the number of drownings or near-drownings of children under eight years old in 2014-15, according to drowning prevention organisation Hannah's Foundation figures.

Mel Forgan, a friend of Caiden's family, has started a fundraising campaign to help the toddler's family of eight pay for funeral costs.

She said the lives of friends and family had been "torn inside out by the death of our favourite little man".

"Caiden loved his goats, birds, horses, ducks and chooks and loved animals," she said.

"Our loss is immeasurable and our grief is overwhelming."

HF founding director Andrew Plint said the tragedies were horrendous but it was heart-warming to see the Lockyer Valley community rally behind the families.

Mr Plint and wife Katherine started the foundation after their daughter Hannah died in 2007.

He said he hoped the Lockyer Valley deaths would help raise awareness of how easily drownings could occur.

"It's all based on conversation and awareness," he said.

"You can't legislate rural dams. That's never going to happen because of the nature of what rural properties are.

"We already have really good swimming pool safety laws in place but people are still propping open pool gates."

HF's figures showed five drownings in pools, seven in dams and two in waterways among children under eight since July 2014.

Mr Plint said "almost every single pool drowning in Queensland" over the past three years had come in a pool with the gate propped open.

He said his understanding was that the gate of the Regency Downs pool was stuck open but had not been propped open deliberately.

Royal Life Saving Society Queensland executive director Michael Darben said it was critical for every parent to supervise children, create safe play areas and learn CPR.

"I don't think you can ever regard it as a silver lining but the more that people are aware there is a risk of drowning in all aquatic environments, and awareness will hopefully create action within people to assess the risk themselves on their own properties," he said.

"When we look at the drowning statistics, when children drown rural properties are especially relevant.

"And it's particularly children who are over the age of 18 months who become mobile, who may be able to access doors and gates and head down to those areas."
